This Privacy Policy explains how QuickCast - Screen Recorder ("QuickCast", "the Extension", "we", "our") handles user data when you use our browser extension. QuickCast enables users to record active browser tabs, desktop monitors, or application windows with optional microphone audio and webcam overlays.

2. Data Collection and Local Processing

QuickCast operates with a privacy-first, client-side architecture:

• Screen and Tab Video Capture: When you start a recording, video frames are captured directly on your device using the browser's native chrome.tabCapture and getDisplayMedia APIs. Frame rendering and canvas composition occur entirely inside local browser memory.
• Microphone Audio: If you enable the microphone option, audio is recorded locally via the Web Audio API solely to mux voiceover into your recording. Audio is never analyzed, transcribed, or transmitted without your explicit action.
• Webcam Bubble Overlay: If you enable the camera bubble, your webcam feed is composited locally onto the canvas element in real-time. Camera data never leaves your device.
• Personal Information: QuickCast does not collect names, email addresses, browsing history, keystrokes, IP addresses, or tracking cookies.

3. Cloud Uploads & Data Storage

QuickCast provides two distinct saving modes:

• Local Downloads (Offline Mode): When "1-Click Cloud Upload" is unchecked, all recording files (.webm) are written directly to your computer's local Downloads folder via chrome.downloads. No data is sent to the internet.
• 1-Click Cloud Sharing (Cloudflare R2): When you choose to use cloud sharing, your finished video file is transmitted securely over encrypted HTTPS (TLS 1.3) directly to Cloudflare R2 object storage to generate your private, shareable watch link. Video files are stored solely for viewing by users who possess the unique link.

4. Permissions Justification

QuickCast requests only the permissions strictly required for its core single purpose:

• tabCapture: Required to capture audio and video of the browser tab selected by the user.
• desktopCapture: Required to allow users to select and record their full screen or application windows.
• activeTab & tabs: Required to identify the active webpage the user intends to record.
• storage: Required to persist local user settings (e.g. microphone toggle, camera position, and recording history) on your device.
• downloads: Required to save recorded .webm video files to your local hard drive.
• offscreen: Required by Manifest V3 to encode media streams smoothly in the background without freezing the popup.
• clipboardWrite: Required to automatically copy your shareable video link or live room link to your clipboard upon completion.
• https://quickcast-r2-uploader.admettre.workers.dev/*: Required to upload video recordings to Cloudflare R2 when cloud sharing is enabled.

5. Third-Party Sharing and Sale of Data

We do NOT sell, trade, rent, or transfer any user data, screen recordings, audio files, or personal information to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers under any circumstances.

6. User Rights and Deletion

You have full ownership and control over your recordings. Videos saved locally can be deleted from your disk at any time. For recordings uploaded via Cloudflare R2, you can clear your history or contact us to request immediate deletion of any hosted video ID.

7. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as new features are added. Any updates will be posted directly to this URL with an updated effective date.
